Affordable Essentials for the New Home
Moving to a new home is a stressful but exciting time which can involve a lot of costs, both expected and unexpected. To ensure the process is as smooth as possible, plan it in advance by preparing checklists.
One of these checklists could be organised by room. Set dates by which you aim to have completed packing up the living room and the bedroom, for example. Another list could be focused on sorting out different items from around the house, such as clothing, crockery, books and soft furnishings.
An important list to have is a list of items you need to buy to perfect your new home. Chances are one of the reasons you're moving is because your old home was insufficient in some way. Perhaps it was too small or was a rented property that came equipped with furniture and kitchenware, but you're now willing to invest in your own furniture and crockery.
There are a few essentials without which your new home won't be quite perfect. If you don't have these yet, set aside some money to be able to purchase them. Fortunately, these will not break the bank.
The Kitchen
One of the things without which your home will never be quite complete is a kettle. If anything, you'll need it to make that all important cup of tea after completing the mammoth task of moving house! Choose whatever is most convenient for you - an electrical kettle or a hob-based one.
A kitchen also needs a spacious bin. Choosing a large one means you'll have to take out the rubbish less often. If the area you're moving to provides recycling facilities, ensure the bin has compartments to provide for this. Many modern bins do. Or, alternatively buy a number of smaller, colour coordinated bins.
The Bathroom and Laundry
An important item is the laundry basket. Often, people resort to using plastic bags to collect laundry but this is neither tidy or environmentally friendly if these are discarded after each use. Instead, choose a sturdy laundry basket. These come in many different shapes and styles and can be a true interior accessory.
The Living Room
A common focal point in the living room is the sofa or armchair. As one of the biggest items of furniture, it should fit into the interior well. But, most importantly, it should be comfortable. Think of how much time you'll spend slouched in front of the television or reading books. It's likely to be one of the most used pieces of furniture in your home.
The Bedroom
Mattresses are quite an expense but they are vital for a good night's sleep. One should never have protruding springs and be allowed to get dusty. To ensure quality sleep in your new home, mattress toppers are an essential. These provide for a comfortable sleeping surface, and help people avoid back pain.
Curtains are also a much needed investment. People sleep best in low light or darkness so blocking out the early morning sunshine is really important.
