Here's what most businesses do...
They put an advertisement in the paper or on the radio or TV stations and they do either one of 2 things.


(1) They tell everyone how great they are and how long they've been in business, or...
(2) They tell everyone what they sell and how YOU can find them to give them your hard-earned money.
This type of advertising is one-shot advertising or mass-advertising.
It's meant for corporate businesses that have a budget of thousands and thousands of dollars to waste!
It's meant to sell you their products and services.
I also call it the 'spray-and-pray' method. Spray the crowd and pray and hope someone will come into buy!
Here's what's interesting about this type of advertising. We're only adverting TO sell! Advertise to sell. Advertise to sell. I want more money so what do I do? Advertise to sell!

Now what I know to be true about people is that they hate to be sold but they love to buy!
Well as a small business owner, I know I can't afford to "spray and pray" and I also know there IS a better way!
It's called Marketing for Leads or Lead Generation.
What is a lead?
This is someone that is interested in your products or services but is not yet ready to buy. When you do lead generation, you build a database of customers and prospects that are interested in your offerings.
You can use that database to sell to, whenever you want. Once they're in your database, you can sell to them over and over without great expense. Most importantly, you can communicate with your database about new products you're about to launch, exciting events coming up and more.
Do you see how this works?
So starting from today, stop advertising to sell and start marketing for leads. Keep building and building your database. One day they will buy and even if they don't, they'll be a great source of referrals for your business.
